Starkey released Omega AI in October 2025, and after fitting these devices to patients at Liverpool Hearing Centre, we can confidently say this is the most complete hearing aid Starkey has ever produced. That is not a statement we make lightly - Starkey's previous Edge AI was already very good.

 

What makes Omega AI genuinely different is DNN 360 - the first deep neural network-powered directionality system built into a hearing aid, exclusive to the premium 24 technology tier. Traditional directional microphones focus on sound coming from in front of you. DNN 360 analyses your entire acoustic environment in real time, distinguishing speech from background noise across all 360 degrees. In practical terms, this means you can follow a conversation at a busy Liverpool restaurant without constantly repositioning yourself to face the speaker.

 

 

 

The G3 Neuro Processor and DNN 360: How Omega AI Actually Hears

 

At the heart of Omega AI sits the new G3 Gen AI Neuro Processor. This chip is significantly faster than the G2 processor used in Edge AI, with improved processing efficiency that allows DNN 360 to run continuously without compromising battery life. Activate Edge Mode+ with a tap on the hearing aid itself or through the My Starkey app. It works particularly well in unexpectedly noisy situations - walking into a packed Bold Street cafe, for example, or arriving at a busy family gathering. The feature was already excellent in Edge AI, and Starkey has kept it unchanged in Omega AI because it did not need fixing.

 

If you deal with tinnitus alongside hearing loss, Edge Mode+ provides an additional layer of control over your listening environment that many of our patients find genuinely helpful in reducing listening fatigue.

 

 

Design, Comfort, and Available Styles

 

Omega AI is available in seven main styles, covering everything from mild to profound hearing loss. The Omega AI 24 tier features DNN 360 processing, while the 20 and 16 tiers use Adaptive Directionality. The smallest custom option (CIC) trades Bluetooth connectivity for maximum discretion.

 

 

Physically, Omega AI looks virtually identical to Edge AI. The mRIC R remains the most popular style - it sits discreetly behind the ear with a thin wire connecting to a small receiver in the ear canal. Most people will not notice you are wearing it. If you want something even less visible, the CIC fits deep inside the ear canal and is genuinely difficult to spot, even at close range. For patients interested in invisible hearing aid options, both the CIC and ITC are worth considering.

 

Comfort is excellent across all styles. The RIC models use silicone domes or custom moulds that most patients forget about within a few days. Updated venting in Omega AI reduces the occluded "blocked" sensation that cheaper hearing aids can produce, so your own voice sounds natural.

 

 

Battery Life: Setting a New Standard

 

Battery life has long been a Starkey strength, and Omega AI maintains that advantage. The RIC RT model delivers up to 51 hours on a single charge - that is comfortably more than two full days, even with regular streaming. The smaller mRIC R manages up to 41 hours, which still exceeds a very full day of use with streaming.

 

The StarLink Charger 2.0 fully charges the aids in approximately 3.5 hours. A quick 10-minute turbo charge provides around 3 hours of use when the battery is low - useful if you forgot to charge overnight and need to get out the door.

 

For patients who prefer not to deal with chargers at all, the RIC 312 model uses traditional disposable batteries (size 312) that last approximately 5-7 days. This can be a sensible choice for frequent travellers or anyone who simply prefers the flexibility of carrying spare batteries.

 

Importantly, Starkey achieved these battery figures without sacrificing DNN 360 performance. The G3 processor is more power-efficient than its predecessor, allowing the advanced neural network processing to run continuously throughout the day.

 

 

Durability: Built for Real Life

 

Starkey has taken durability seriously with Omega AI. The new Pro10 HydraShield waterproof coating is tested to last 10 times longer than the previous Pro 8 coating used on Edge AI. All models carry an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, meaning they are protected against submersion up to 1 metre.

 

For custom models (ITE, ITC, CIC), Starkey has introduced a new shell resin that is 20 times stronger than previous acrylic materials. These shells also have some flex, making them significantly more resistant to cracking from accidental drops or impacts. This is a meaningful upgrade for anyone who has ever experienced the frustration of a cracked hearing aid shell.

 

In practical terms, Omega AI handles sweat, rain, humidity, and the general unpredictability of British weather without concern. You do not need to remove them for a light shower (though we would not recommend swimming with them), and gym sessions are absolutely fine.

 

 

Smart Features: The My Starkey App and TeleHear AI

 

The My Starkey app serves as your control centre for Omega AI. From your smartphone or Apple Watch, you can adjust volume, switch listening programmes, customise sound settings for different environments, and access all health tracking data.

 

 

TeleHear AI: Your Pocket Audiologist

 

TeleHear AI is one of the most interesting features in Omega AI. It uses generative AI technology to help resolve common sound concerns without requiring a clinic visit. Describe your issue using your voice - "Speech sounds muffled in meetings" or "Background noise is too loud in restaurants" - and TeleHear AI creates an instant sound adjustment with 93% predictive accuracy, based on thousands of professional fittings.

 

You can try the adjustment, apply it if you like it, or revert to your original settings at any time. It does not replace professional fitting and fine-tuning - and we would always recommend periodic check-ups - but it is remarkably useful for those moments between appointments when something is not quite right.

 

 

Gen AI Smart Assistant

 

The Gen AI Smart Assistant allows you to interact with your hearing aids using natural conversational language. Ask it questions about your hearing aids, request programme changes, set medication or appointment reminders (which play directly through your hearing aids), or check battery status - all hands-free. Think of it as a smart assistant built specifically for hearing aid management.

 

 

LED Indicator Lights and Find My Hearing Aid

 

A small but genuinely useful addition: green and red LED indicator lights on the RIC RT and mRIC R models confirm power status and Bluetooth connectivity at a glance. Even better, these LEDs double as a Find My Hearing Aid tool through the My Starkey app - activate the lights to flash, making it easy to locate a misplaced device even in the dark. Anyone who has ever spent twenty minutes searching for a hearing aid that fell behind a cushion will appreciate this feature enormously.

• Respiratory rate monitoring - An industry first. Omega AI automatically tracks your breathing rate in the background throughout the day. Respiratory rate is one of the four vital signs, and this data feeds into weekly wellness summaries without affecting battery performance.
• Balance Builder - Guided at-home exercises designed to improve stability and coordination. Since balance and hearing are connected through the inner ear, this is a practical feature for reducing fall risk.
• Fall detection - If a fall is detected, the system can alert designated contacts with your location. This provides a meaningful safety net, particularly for those who live alone.

Connectivity: Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast

 

Omega AI uses Bluetooth LE Audio - the latest connectivity standard - for streaming calls, music, and audio from compatible devices. This provides faster pairing, lower power consumption, and more stable connections compared to older Bluetooth protocols. Compatible devices include iPhones (11 and newer), most modern Android phones, and Windows 11+ computers.

 

Omega AI is also Auracast-ready. Auracast is a new broadcast audio standard that will eventually allow hearing aids to receive audio directly from public address systems in cinemas, airports, places of worship, and other venues. As of early 2026, Auracast-enabled venues are still relatively rare in the UK, but the technology is already functional in Omega AI. The RIC RT model also includes a traditional telecoil, ensuring compatibility with existing hearing loop systems found in many UK theatres, churches, and public buildings.

 

For television, the StarLink Edge TV Streamer sends audio directly from your TV to your hearing aids. Streaming now starts and reconnects automatically - a welcome improvement over previous models that occasionally required manual reconnection. As more televisions incorporate Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast natively, the need for a separate streamer will diminish, but for now, the accessory remains necessary for most setups.

 

Hands-free calling works natively on compatible iPhones. For Android users, calls stream to the hearing aids with standard Bluetooth audio routing. Google Fast Pair (added in a January 2026 firmware update) makes Android pairing essentially automatic.

 

 

Tinnitus Management

 

Omega AI includes Starkey's MultiFlex Tinnitus Pro technology with customisable sound therapy across up to 24 frequency bands. Your audiologist can programme a tinnitus masking signal tailored precisely to your personal tinnitus profile. That said, you can use as many or as few features as you like - the core hearing performance works beautifully without ever opening the app.
• Smartphone dependency for full functionality - TeleHear AI, the Gen AI Smart Assistant, health tracking, and most customisation features require a compatible smartphone. The CIC model does not have Bluetooth at all.
• Premium pricing - Omega AI sits at the top of Starkey's range. The technology is impressive, but it represents a significant investment. For patients with straightforward hearing needs in quieter environments, a mid-range option may deliver excellent results at a lower cost. We always discuss the full range of options during a comprehensive hearing assessment.
• Music streaming quality - While perfectly adequate for calls, podcasts, and casual listening, music quality through Omega AI does not match dedicated audio earbuds. This is a limitation shared by virtually all hearing aids on the market.
• Bluetooth LE Audio compatibility - Not all smartphones fully support Bluetooth LE Audio yet. Check your phone's specifications before assuming all features will work. Starkey's compatibility list has had some inaccuracies, so we recommend verifying independently.
• Rapid product cycles - Starkey releases new platforms more frequently than most manufacturers (annually vs the industry standard of 18-24 months). This is good for innovation but can feel frustrating if you purchased Edge AI recently.
• DNN 360 is tier-dependent - The headline directionality feature is only available in the premium 24 tier. The 20 and 16 tiers use Adaptive Directionality, which is still very capable but does not offer the same neural network-powered spatial processing.
